Explore the breath Welsh scenery, from coastal paths to the Brecon Beacons with Laura Side Street
I'm Laura, a South African expat living in South Wales for the past decade and loving every moment. South Wales has so many hidden gems, mountains, coastline and countryside to explore and I really enjoyed hiking on the weekends and exploring as much of the local area as possible.
The Challenge
As an outdoor lover living near McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Bridgend, we challenged Laura Side Street to find some new additions to her must have outdoor kit. With excellent outdoor brands like Helly Hansen, Mountain Warehouse, Regatta, Saltrock, Barbour & Fat Face, all for up to 60% off RRP, she was spoilt for choice! Read on to discover what she picked out.I picked up a fantastic jacket from Helly Hansen for £100 with the original retail price being £180, along with trail fleece snood for 50% off. At mountain warehouse, I found a fleece for myself and a waterproof jacket for my son with around 65% savings off the original price - simply amazing value. We also picked up a winter hat and umbrella from Regatta and a t-shirt from Saltrock. The centre also has plenty of food options for a pit stop, we purchased snacks from Holland and Barrett and balanced that with a delicious doughnut.
Over the past week my son and I visited Parc Penallta in the Welsh Valleys, a wonderful, reclaimed country park which was once a former coal tip but is now home to a huge earth sculpture "Sultan the Pit Pony" and a high point observation which offers incredible views across the Valley and was covered with snow on our visit.
We also spent time walking around Ogmore-by-Sea and visiting Ogmore Castle and the ancient steppingstones, this makes for a great weekend walk along the Wales Coast Path.
Both locations are steeped in Welsh history, something I am passionate about. They are also incredibly beautiful and the perfect place to boost both your mental and physical well-being and take advantage of amazing views and fresh air.
